Description
The Child Care Nutrition Program is a federally funded contract through the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). The Utah State Office of Education administers the Child and Adult Care Food Program in the State of Utah. The program is an extension of the School Lunch Program to ensure that adequate nutrition is available to children in a licensed day care provider's home. Day care providers receive reimbursement for meals served to day care children in their homes. In the Cache and Box Elder area there are approximately 90-100 providers. We also serve approximately 60 child care providers in Carbon, Emery, Grand, Duchesne, Uintah, and San Juan Counties. The majority of the children in child care are between the ages of birth and seven years old. There are several providers who provide care to children with disabilities.
The Child Care Nutrition Program reimburses providers on a monthly basis for meals served. Training and technical assistance is given to the providers on an 'as needed' basis. Home visits are conducted three times per year to child care providers. Assessment of nutritional needs, additional technical and nutritional training and monitoring for compliance of federal regulations occur during these home visits. Two to three times per year nutrition and program related workshops are held to assist providers in understanding nutrition and child development aspects of providing care. Providers must attend at least one of these two-hour workshops annually.
